A driver was allegedly found with a taser after he was pulled over for high-level speeding in Melbourne’s east.
Police were doing a routine speed check on Boronia Rd in Vermont at lunchtime yesterday when they came across the weapon.
Nunawading highway patrol Acting Sergeant Jordan Brown said police pulled over a car about 12.45pm after the laser gun clocked it allegedly travelling at 91km/h in a 60km/h zone.
The driver, a 45-year-old Narre Warren man, tested negative for being under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
But Acting Sgt Brown said police thought there could have been drugs in the car and began a search.

They found a taser in the pocket of the driver’s door.
Acting Sgt Brown said the man didn’t really give a reason for having the illicit weapon, saying he’d had it for about eight months.
The car also turned out to be unregistered.
Police seized the taser and the man was charged with exceeding the speed limit, driving an unregistered vehicle and possessing a prohibited weapon.
