A Surrey Hills hospitality couple has decided to share their passions with their own neighbourhood after years of successful ventures across Melbourne’s east.

Kendall Knight and Marnie Heenan, the creative minds behind Kew’s former The Boulevard Restaurant and Eltham’s The Boulevard @ Montsalvat, have just opened The Boulevard Foodstore in Mont Albert.

“We are super excited to share what we do and what we love with all in our local neighbourhood and surrounds,” Ms Heenan said.

The business has been a popular spot to grab a coffee in the couple of months it’s been open, but the aim is to be more than just another coffee shop, Mr Knight said.

The inviting store is open for breakfast, lunch and coffee every day of the week, with tapas and sundown drinks on Friday and Saturday evenings.

It’s also a place to buy homewares and produce specially chosen by the pair, and will soon offer a range of take-home meals.

“The concept of our food store is born out of things we love and have been able to enjoy with family and friends,” Ms Heenan said.

The space hosts an eclectic range of items that have made great memories for their family. They sell a range of ceramics from South Africa a friend introduced them to, a range of sardines they fell in love with on their travels to Portugal and a type of wine a friend produced for charity after losing a loved one.

“They’re things that have touched us,” Ms Heenan said.

After living in Surrey Hills “forever”, the couple said their new venture had been greatly supported by the community so far, particularly fellow Surrey Hills Primary School families.

Mr Knight said the business owners were keen to engage with people in the area and cater to what was wanted.

They’re going to start selling take-home meals such as lasagne, pies and quiches, after receiving positive feedback on the idea.

They’ve also enjoyed having a regular customer’s daughter performing live music at the store on Friday nights.

The Boulevard Foodstore is at 369 Mont Albert Rd, Mont Albert.
