Police say it’s miraculous no one was injured when a man driving a high-powered car lost control, his vehicle spinning across two lanes of traffic and a footpath before smashing into the wall of the luxury Chen Hotel and several restaurants in Box Hill.
The man’s car spun across Whitehorse Rd and smashed into the wall outside The Chen hotel about 11am.
It happened in Box Hill’s busy centre less than 200m from Box Hill Central shopping centre.

The man was turning left onto Whitehorse Rd from Nelson St when he lost control of his Nissan car, Nunawading highway patrol Sergeant David Nattrass said.
Sgt Nattrass said the driver “accelerated heavily” as he turned left, causing him to lose control of the car, which smashed into the concrete barrier of the Nelson Rd/Whitehorse Rd tram stop.
After hitting the concrete barrier, the car spun across the two lanes of Whitehorse Rd and crashed into the entrance of Katori Japanese restaurant at the bottom of The Chen hotel.
The car hit the wall on either side of the restaurant’s entrance.
Sgt Nattrass said it was lucky the car didn’t hit any pedestrians and no-one was injured in the incident.
The restaurant doesn’t open until 5.30pm.
He said police didn’t believe alcohol or other drugs were a factor in the crash.
“It’s a high-powered car,” he said.
The driver remained with police as they diverted traffic around the scene and waited for a tow-truck to remove the written-off car.
Sgt Nattrass said the man would be summonsed to court for careless driving.
Traffic was reduced to one lane on Whitehorse Rd and foot traffic was diverted.
