Box Hill’s newest luxury high-rise will feature New York-style loft apartments, the first of their type for the suburb
MAB Corporation this week released plans for the project, which will be built in Bruce St.
Tempo Box Hill will include 28 one and two-bedroom lofts, which will have twice the ceiling height of standard apartments and feature a mezzanine level intended for use as a spare room or study.
It sets the project apart from other developments like Sky One, which is the tallest building in Melbourne outside the CBD, and Trio Box Hill, the Whitehorse Rd development featuring three luxury towers.
In total, Tempo will have 159 apartments of up to four bedrooms, with three luxury penthouses also planned for the 19-storey tower.
The mixed-use development will also feature a cafe at ground level, with the building facade to include green climbers in a bid to fit in with the leafy precinct.
Common areas will include a music room, lounge, gym and library, with a barbecue and spa terrace on level 11 boasting magnificent views of Box Hill Gardens.
MAB general manager of residential David Allt-Graham said he expected Tempo would raise the bar for people choosing to live in Box Hill.
“MAB has completed more than 15 apartment buildings and transient hotel-style living is not what we’re aiming for, it’s quality and community focused,” he said.
Mr Allt-Graham said the lofts would be particularly flexible for people working from home.
“As more people work from home, lofts are becoming increasingly popular for the flexibility they provide. With Tempo, we are now bringing loft living to Box Hill for the first time,” Mr Allt-Graham said.

MAB has partnered with Hayball to design Tempo. Hayball director Sarah Buckeridge said the shared spaces were vital to creating a sense of community.
“Tempo is ultimately designed with people at its heart,” she said.
