A Knox Mediterranean restaurant where diners design their own souvlakis has received so much love its owner is about to launch another, larger eatery in Glen Waverley.

The second Miss Pickle 1971 restaurant will be located at The Glen Shopping Centre, and its doors are set to open as soon as tomorrow, when The Glen unveils its huge redevelopment.

The new restaurant will offer the same delicious, Mediterranean flavours and menu as the original Miss Pickle 1971 at Knox Ozone, but will have space for even more customers.

Owner Steven Kafrouni said the thriving Knox restaurant, which could seat about 85 diners at a time, was usually full all weekend.

The Glen’s Miss Pickle 1971 will have space for more than 100 customers to enjoy the Mediterranean cuisine and the space’s “retro” vibe.

Mr Kafrouni opened the Mediterranean restaurant at the Wantirna South shopping centre two years ago to pay tribute to his mother, ‘Miss Pickle’.

The menu is inspired by her “phenomenal” cooking and recipes, featuring mouth-watering souvlakis, meat platters, salads and other Mediterranean mains.

The restaurant is all about traditional, real food, with the meat and homemade pita bread cooked freshly on the grill everyday.

Souvlakis are custom-made at Miss Pickle 1971.

Diners choose either chicken, beef, pork, lamb or falafel to be the hero of their meal and can then add chips, halloumi or pickles.

Mr Kafrouni describes the restaurant as ‘The Queen of Pickles, Pita and Everything’.

“We just make everything with love,” he said.

“We make the food the same way as if we were making it at home for a family barbecue.”

The Knox restaurant is open seven days a week and is fully licensed, offering a selection of cocktails, wines and beers.

Mr Kafrouni said customers could expect the same great set-up at The Glen.
