The true tastes of Italy can be found in a small restaurant nestled in Box Hill North.
Run by the man who helped establish Richmond bar The Bowery Locksmith and Camberwell’s Zouz Cafe, T17 offers authentic Italian pizza, starters and desserts made by Italian chefs working their magic with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
T17 owner Jim Kamarotlis said he loved offering a superior quality of Italian food “hidden away” in the suburbs, meaning diners didn’t have to travel to the inner city to enjoy the best cuisine.

“We’re like a little hidden gem or jewel you’ve got to find,” he said.
Indeed, people are prepared to do the reverse and travel to Box Hill North for quality Italian food.
Mr Kamarotlis said he enjoyed hosting customers from Elwood and Warrandyte on Mother's Day.
The seasoned hospitality businessman and father of two young children opened the restaurant in July 2016.
And while he said it took people a little while to discover the pizza place, bookings were now essential to grab a feed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Mr Kamarotlis said he hated turning people away when the restaurant was full.
“I just love all the families and the people that come,” Mr Kamarotlis said.
T17’s two Italian chefs are also kept busy by locals generating a high volume of takeaway orders.
Mr Kamarotlis said T17’s prosciutto pizza, featuring san marzano tomato, that’s amore fior di latte, buffalo mozzarella, san daniele prosciutto and fresh basil was the menu’s most popular item, followed closely by the T17 special, starring that’s amore fior di latte, san daniele prosciutto, mushrooms, and homemade truffle cream.
Mr Kamarotlis said T17’s dessert was also hot property, particularly the Nutella Calzone served with homemade gelato, along with the chefs’ handmade gnocchi.
T17 caters for the whole family, offering special items for children and gluten-free pizza.
Located at 17 Trawool St, Box Hill North, T17 is open for dinner Tuesday to Sunday from 5pm.
