A CARELESS tradie was booked for having a couple of ladders dangling dangerously from his ute.

Eagle-eyed Nunawading Highway Patrol officers, who are cracking down on unsecured loads, spotted the dodgy driver on September 4 in the Manningham area.

Sergeant Paul Egan said the ladders had been placed in the tray of the vehicle without being secured in any way.

“A red flag should also have been tied to the back of the ladder to warn other drivers about the protrusion,” he said.

Sgt Egan said the man was fined $242.
