Vulnerable road users are being warned to take responsibility for their safety following a recent rise in serious collisions. Pedestrians in particular are being warned about the dangers of being distracted by texting while they walk. Manningham CIU Sergeant Ben Howie said pedestrians were still “over-represented in serious vehicle collisions”. “General awareness around roads could improve. Walking and texting, jaywalking, and generally not paying attention all result in collisions with vehicles,” he said. Sgt Howie said motorists also needed to take care coming into winter.
