Most of them are free and offer plenty of fun to keep the kids entertained on a hot summer’s day.
NORTH
Coburg
Pentridge Children’s Playground and Water Play area
Pentridge Piazza, 1 Champ St Coburg
Simple wooden playground with ropes courses, bridges and climbing ropes surrounded by grassy spots. The play space also includes a water play area. Push the giant button and dodge your way through the water fountains. Open all day.
Eltham
Eltham Lower Park Playspace, Diamond Valley Rail Park, Main Road, Eltham
A fully fenced accessible play space themed around the Eltham Copper Butterfly with a small water play area and accessible sandpit.
Mill Park
All Abilities Play Space, Mill Park Recreation Reserve, Morang Drive
The water play area includes accessible water play tables, shooting water jets, misting rings and manual water pumps, providing hours of fun for all ages.
Open daily from 8am to 8pm.
Bundoora
Bundoora All Abilities Playspace, River Red Gum Ave
Attached to Bundoora Park farm, a farm themed playground with a water play area. The playground includes a water tank slide, spinning merry-go-round and a huge sand pit.
Norris Bank Reserve, 135 Mcleans Rd Bundoora
Large playground with features including scooter loop, a skate ramp, an in-ground trampoline, four swings plus a liberty swing and a basket swing, two flying foxes, 6m climbing tower which sits in the middle of the playground and three slides. There is a separate nature play section with a sandpit and also a running water play area with manual foot pumps.
SOUTHEAST
Noble Park
Noble Park Aquatic Centre

An outdoor splash park is on offer in Noble Park to cool kids of all abilities down when temperatures soar.
It features tipping buckets, water fountains, slides and climbing equipment with a shaded area for guardians to sit and watch.
The park is open on days when the temp is set to surpass 26 degrees and there are barbecue facilities nearby – if you’re in for a long day.
The aquatic centre also has one of Melbourne’s best water slides, but keep in mind kids must be over five years old and at least 120cm to have a go.
Elsternwick
Harleston Park
47 Allison Rd, Elsternwick
The park known for having the “longest slide in Glen Eira” also has a popular running stream water feature.
Glen Huntly
Booran Reserve
1051 Glen Huntly Rd, Glen Huntly
It’s been described as the best children’s playground in Melbourne, and Booran Reserve also has a unique water play feature, including a surface splash pad and water jets which spray water upwards in various patterns and at different times.
Karingal
Ballam Park
Cranbourne Rd, Karingal
Frankston Council recently opened its first water play at Ballam Park, just in time for summer.
The $3m project was one of four new playgrounds launched by the council in 2022.
It’s part of the 30ha park which includes two playgrounds, premier athletics track and sports fields for AFL, soccer and cricket.
The latest addition also has a giant basket swing, carousel and plenty of trees and shade shelters.
OUTER EAST
Seville
Seville Water Play Park

There’s plenty of fun on offer for youngsters at the free Seville Water Play Park, with water jets creating the perfect way to cool down on a warm day.
There’s also a playground, barbecue and picnic tables nearby.

Warburton
Warburton Water World

The free park has water features include a drenching bucket, along with other play equipment, and a picnic and barbecue area.
Lilydale
Lillydale Lake
435 Swansea Road, Lilydale
There is a splash pad, including water jets and sprays, at the Lillydale Lake playground.
WEST
Footscray
Footscray Park
40 Maribyrnong Blvd, Footscray
The all-abilities playground at Footscray Park is located between the pond area and the Maribyrnong River. According to Maribyrnong Council, the playground is fully fenced and contains a water play area, natural play elements, sandpit, musical elements and other playground equipment set among trees and garden beds.
Sunshine West
Buckingham Reserve
Buckingham Crescent, Sunshine West
Buckingham Reserve’s highly developed playground caters for a wide range of ages and abilities, according to Brimbank Council. The playground includes a dual flying fox, rock walls, water play area, rubberised play areas, swings and a sandpit.
Kids love the 9m rocket tower which they can climb into to launch themselves down the slides.
Werribee
Riverwalk Village Park

The water play area at the Riverwalk estate is described as one of Melbourne's best.
Children can also enjoy an epic adventure playground, including slides and swings.
Point Cook
Crocodile Park Saltwater Coast Point Cook
Cnr City Bay Road & Saltwater Promenade, Saltwater Coast, Point Cook
Crocodile Park opened at Saltwater Coast estate as part of a $5.5 million upgrade to the wetlands in 2015.
The park has an aquatic playground with a bronze crocodile, outdoor amphitheatre, boardwalks and BBQ stations surrounding the lake.
