Work has started on the biggest construction project in Box Hill’s history.
CBD Development Group has announced the appointment of Hickory as the building contractor for Trio Box Hill, a three tower development on Whitehorse Rd, opposite Box Hill Central.
Trio will replace the Spotlight store and a KFC outlet which have moved.
The towers range from 16 to 36 levels and will be situated on top of a six-level podium.
Described as “tailored for multi-generational living”, Trio will include two towers of residential apartments designed to suit singles, couples and families, and a third tower offering senior living apartments and a two-level childcare facility.
All up, the development will be home to 460 apartments.
Amenities will include communal gardens, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, infinity pool, sauna and steam room.
The developer said a wealth of retail, dining and entertainments options will be incorporated into the development, in addition to an eight-level car park, 126 hotel rooms and two levels of office and function spaces.
Hickory managing director George Abraham said it was excited to be working with CBD Development Group to deliver “the next generation of premium living in Box Hill, an area which is experiencing remarkable growth and prosperity.”
Mr Abraham said Hickory would use high-tech prefab construction methods, which would involve the use of precast core panels to fast-track the construction.
The incorporation of Hickory’s prefab SYNC bathroom pods will also enable early handover on parts of the building in stages, increasing productivity and allowing the developer to start settlements three months earlier than practical completion.
CBD Development Group managing director Chen Guo Jing said: “We are excited to be commencing development on what will be the largest construction project ever developed in Box Hill, adding to the vibrant community and creating more job opportunities for the local area.”
Construction began on September 28 with the project to set be completed by 2023.
Meanwhile another high-rise is set to pop up nearby.
The land for sale at 13 Prospect St is described as a “prime Box Hill high-rise development site”.
The real estate listing describes it as offering exceptional development potential of up to 25 levels.
It is next to Vicinity’s Box Hill Central shopping centre, which is set to undergo a $683 million upgrade.
One of Victoria’s largest private urban regeneration projects, Vicinity Centre’s vision is to transform 5.5ha – the equivalent of three city blocks – in the centre of Box Hill.
The outcome will be a world class mixed-use and retail precinct for more than 6000 workers and 3800 residents by 2030.
