Sky high towers, continuous construction, and bold development plans are set to be essential for Box Hill to become Victoria’s second CBD.
Developers looking to get a slice of the pie could have the opportunity to stamp their own tower on the Box Hill skyline, as multiple land parcels have been placed on the market.
A site with a 19-storey development permit has been listed for sale at 26-28 Wellington Rd.
The listing said the property could “suit a range of alternative development outcomes” including apartments, hotel rooms, student accommodation and more.
Another possible sky rise apartment tower could be erected at 502-510 Station St, Box Hill.
The site was given a 9-storey tower development scheme, which included 58 apartments.
Down the road, a vacant block at 702-706 Station St could be transformed into a 162-room hotel.
The “shovel ready development site” has been approved for a 15-storey tower but an additional five levels may be added pending further permit approvals.
Box Hill’s skyline has been moving to new heights with several major developments on the way, including Vicinity Centre’s Box Hill Central upgrades, a 19-storey medical hub on Wellington Rd, a Cambridge St office tower and more.
These major developments come as Box Hill’s population was forecasted to grow by 143.25 per cent by 2046, with more than 20,000 new residents expected to move to the suburb, as forecasted by demography outfit .id.
Even higher growth rates were projected for the Box Hill activity centre — where these sites have been listed for sale — with an expected 191.78 per cent population increase by 2046.
