Box Hill will get a 19-store medical hub which along with the already large scare medical precinct could turn the suburb into “the capital of health in Victoria”.
Developer APH Holding received the green light from Whitehorse Council to build Wellington Health Two at 26-28 Wellington Rd, Box Hill, to sit alongside Wellington Health One, a $320m medical building located at 12-24 Wellington Rd, Box Hill.
Together the twin towers will form a state-of-the-art medical and education precinct tipped to create more than 10,000 jobs.
Councillor Blair Barker said the council was building “the best health precinct outside the central business district”.
He said the development would offer “well paying jobs” as well as access to doctors and health professionals.
“There’s no more driving to the Royal Children’s Hospital to see your kid’s surgeon,” he said.
Under the existing plans, Wellington Health Two would be home to a medical and hospitality centre and a large car park, with the medical hub taking up 18 of the tower’s 19 storeys. Some of the specialist services pitched for the hub include radiology, medical imaging and general practitioners.
The tower would stand 75m tall and would sit within the Box Hill Metropolitan Activity Centre (MAC).
APH Holding chief executing Johnson Zhang previously told the Herald Sun Wellington Health would provide health services for Melbourne’s growing southeastern corridor.
“With the planning and construction of the Suburban Rail Loop and the Box Hill station, the medical demand in and around Box Hill will be stronger than ever,” he said.
