Man dies in McIvor Highway collision, near Derrinal

A man has died after a collision on the outskirts of Bendigo on Friday, adding to the rising driver death toll this month.

A man has died in a two car collision in Derrinal early on Friday morning.

The crash occurred on the McIvor Highway near the intersection of Hills Rd, just outside Heathcote, about 8am.

One man died at the scene.

The driver of the second car, a man believed to be in his 50s, was transported to Bendigo Base Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The incident adds to the fast-growing tally of lives lost on Victorian roads this month, with seven people dead.

In the early hours of January 5 a man died in a crash at Kilmany on the Princes Highway, near Sale.

The day before, four people were killed in a two car collision near Shepparton and a truck driver died when his vehicle rolled off the Hume Freeway in Tallarook.
