A relative of a married couple killed in a collision on the Wimmera Highway says her family has been “absolutely shattered” by the loss of two “amazing people”.

Don Kerr, 76, and Lynn Kerr, 71, were killed in a crash at Murtoa on February 28 as they headed towards Bendigo.

It was a week before their 53rd anniversary, which fell on Ms Kerr’s birthday.

An Eaglehawk truck driver, 24-year-old Jack Andrew, faces two counts of dangerous driving causing death over the collision between a truck and the Kerrs’ vehicle.

He appeared by video in Horsham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, where his case was adjourned until October.

The Kerrs’ niece Anjali Rao said the deaths of her uncle and aunty caused “unbearable pain”.

“I can’t ever imagine getting past this,” she said.

“They were amazing people with a huge amount of life left and they had plans and dreams and all of those things that we all have.

“Now they can’t go through with any of those plans.

“I can’t believe it; I can’t get my head around it.”

Mr Kerr was born in Bendigo, and Mrs Kerr in Sydney.

They met in Bendigo and lived in Adelaide for several decades.

“Every single memory is positive,” Ms Rao said.
“We never ever had a cross word.

“We were just really, really close and they were amazing people with the most adventurous spirit.”

She said Mr and Mrs Kerr never turned down an exciting opportunity.

In fact, they encouraged their niece to take part in the Real Housewives of Melbourne, telling her – according to Ms Rao – “That is so stupid. You should definitely do it.”

“They were just a really happy couple,” Ms Rao said.

Mr Andrew remains on bail.
