A young man has been left a paraplegic after a horror collision in San Remo last month.
Jondy Ariban is still fighting for life in hospital after being involved in a two car collision near Punch Bowl Rd about midnight on February 27.
It is believed three men were travelling in a silver Mitsubishi Lancer along Phillip Island Rd when they collided with a red Holden.
Jondy was critically injured along with two mates.
Jondy, who remains in hospital in a coma, acquired “significant” injuries on impact.
He sustained multiple abdominal traumas which required several operations while scans have also revealed he has a severed spinal cord and multiple spinal fractures, with doctors confirming he will never walk again. His left leg lost circulation and ultimately needed to be amputated.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Jondy’s mother Princes pay for his medical treatment and support her five other children as she takes time off work to be by Jondy’s side.
A friend who set up the page said Jondy was a “bright, energetic, talented and responsible young man”.
“He loved playing basketball and was given a gift to be a great basketball player. He loves all his younger siblings and he loves his mum,” the page reads.
“He was in his prime, sharing the burden with his mother who was the sole breadwinner. This tragic change to his lifestyle will be challenging, not only to him but to his family as well.”
Jondy is one of six children, all whom are provided for by their mother in a small three bedroom home.
The home will need to be renovated to accommodate his new mobility requirements.
“Princes will need to turn the garage into a room which will be equipped suited to Jondy’s new mobility capacity, on top of that she will need to look after other medical cost associated with his recovery.”
The other men who were in the car remain in a critical condition.
