Four people remain in hospital, two in a critical condition after a collision just outside of San Remo.

Four people are still in hospital, two in a critical condition after a horror smash on Phillip Island Rd on Sunday.

It is believed three men were travelling in a silver Mitsubishi Lancer along Phillip Island Rd when they collided with a red Holden near Punch Bowl Rd just before midnight.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 30-year-old Narre Warren South man remains in hospital in a serious condition.

His two passengers, a 21-year-old Laverton man and 20-year-old Beaconsfield man both remain in hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the Holden remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.
