New $30m development proposed in Grantville

A tiny community in the Bass Coast could be set to grow with a massive $30m shopping precinct planned. See the details.

A small town in the Bass Coast is set to get a huge new development which will cater for the wider communities needs.

A $30m development has been announced for Grantville, which would include a supermarket to service Grantville and neighbouring towns.

This comes after many failed attempts to bring the community a supermarket and growing community frustration at their lack of such an essential resource.

On Monday it was announced Ritchies and Mobil would be the two star shops in a “shopping village” set to open in Grantville mid-2024.

The $30m centre, named Bass Coast Village will “more than double the existing retail space in Grantville”.

Leading Edge Property Group managing director Travis Snow said it would provide the community with a “much needed full line supermarket” which they had been “demanding for years”.

“The commencement date for construction is subject to final approval by council but we plan to have commenced construction by mid-2023,” he said.

Bass Coast Village is set to be built on the land across the road from the site which has long been pegged as the future supermarket of Grantville but has faced hurdle after hurdle.

It will feature a full supermarket and seven speciality shops including a discount shop, cafe, hair and beauty services, pharmacy, takeaway food and a financial services office.

Mr Snow said a builder is scheduled to be appointed later in February.

He also said plans for this centre have been in the works since 2019, after extensive discussions with the community in 2014/15.

“Currently the 6000 residents of Grantville do not have a convenient supermarket and are shopping in Koo Wee Rup which is a 25 minute drive from Grantville,” he said.

A large project board featuring design plans will be put up by the end of the month and a community day is set to be scheduled where the local community will be able to raise any questions.
