A man accused of helping another person take their own life has fronted a Gippsland court.
Steven William Carter, 51, appeared at the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on Friday for a committal mention hearing.
Mr Carter has been charged by the Homicide Squad with aiding and abetting a suicide.
His defence lawyer Aliciabeth Licciardi told the court the matter had proceeded as a filing hearing 12 months ago and there had since been “ongoing discussion” over a “lengthy period of time”.
Ms Licciardi said a hand up brief had been previously served.
Magistrate Andrew McKenna adjourned the matter for a summary jurisdiction application and a further committal mention in December.
Mr Carter’s bail was extended until that date.
In Victoria, assisting or counselling someone else to take their own life is punishable by up to five years in jail.
