An alleged thief went to extreme lengths to dodge police in Inverloch on Monday, allegedly hiding in backyards to avoid arrest.

But it wasn’t long until officers caught up with the man, charging him with multiple offences.

The man allegedly ran off when officers from the Bass Coast criminal investigation unit and Wonthaggi police station went to a house in Inverloch just after 8am to execute a search warrant.

The man is believed to have spent some time hiding in backyards in the area of Sandy Mount Ave and Bayview Ave before he was found by police.

He was later arrested by police in Edgar St where he allegedly further resisted police.

As a result of the search warrant, police found allegedly stolen property that they will allege is from a burglary that happened in Inverloch.

A 31-year-old Inverloch man has been charged with multiple offences including theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, and committing an offence on bail.

He was refused bail on Monday and will reappear in court later this week.
