Kmart Australia will open a new store at Wonthaggi Plaza that will replace Target, which closed on Saturday.
The refurbished 3000sq m development will open on October 15 at 8am.
Kmart’s general manager of stores Chris Renshaw said he was delighted about the new store.
“We’re so excited to get conversion works underway at Wonthaggi, so we start to bring this new store to life,” he said.
“We’ve been blown away by the support and feedback from the local community so far and we can’t wait to officially welcome everyone into our new-look Kmart store mid-October”.
The layout will look similar to Kmart Carindale, which opened in Brisbane earlier this month.
The design will include central self-serve check-outs, wider aisles for easy wheelchair and pram access and bold graphics to allow for easier navigation around the store.
Kmart Wonthaggi is just one of 15 stores that are due to open across the country in October.
