A local netball club has had a major win.
Dalyston Football Netball Club will receive a $500,000 state government grant for a new pavilion with player and umpires’ rooms, change rooms and office.
It’s part of a larger $1.3 million project, that will provide two new netball courts, lighting and new public toilets for the Dalyston Recreation Reserve.
Dalyston Football Netball Club president Andy Thomas told The Bass Coast News it was a “huge bonus” for the club.
“Our facilities at Dalyston have been pretty poor for a number of years,” he said.
“We currently don’t have any netball courts that are compliant. The size is a bit out and the courts are slippery because they hold water”.
Mr Thomas said once the new developments were complete, the club will have “first class facilities” and that Dalyston Football Netball Club appreciated the support from the Bass Coast Shire Council.
“There new housing estates going in and Wonthaggi is getting bigger so there’s just more and more people here and I think council recognised the recreational facilities needed a little bit of an upgrade,” he said.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor Cr Brett Tessari said it was exciting to see the project come to fruition during a pandemic.
“We’re currently in a very challenging time so it’s great to be able to announce such positive news for our community,” he said.
The new facilities are due to open next year ahead of the 2021 season.
