A Bass Coast Shire councillor is under investigation by the local government watchdog.
An official source has confirmed a Local Government Inspectorate investigation will probe allegations of corruption by Cr Les Larke.
Cr Larke is currently running for Bass Coast Shire councillor in the upcoming elections.
The Bass Coast News has contacted Cr Les Larke for comment.
Bass Coast Shire chief executive Ali Wastie confirmed the investigation on Friday.
“The investigation is ongoing and is being undertaken by the Victorian Local Government Inspectorate,” she said.
“Council is unable to comment on the specifics of the matter in order to afford fairness to the individual.”
Acting chief municipal inspector Dr John Lynch said the LGI was investigating a complaint relating to Bass Coast Shire Council.
“The Inspectorate does not provide comment on investigations that are yet to be finalised,” he said.
“The Inspectorate has no further comment to provide at this stage”.
The matter was reported to the independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission by Ms Wastie.
IBAC subsequently referred the matter to Victorian Local Government Inspectorate for review.
The matter relates to one councillor and does not involve the organisation nor the broader Councillor group in any way.
The independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission Act compels organisations to notify IBAC when there is reasonable grounds to suspect corruption is occurring or has occurred in the workplace.
