A motorcyclist has died after crashing into a tree in East Gippsland.
It’s understood a 56-year-old female motorcyclist from Elderslie in NSW, was riding in a group and crashed into a tree on Bairnsdale-Dargo Rd in Fernbank — between Sale and Bairnsdale — at 2.25pm on Monday.
A police spokesperson said the woman died at the scene.
“The exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
The incident has taken the state road death toll to 260, compared to 217 at the same time last year.
It is the second road fatality in the area within 24 hours and comes after a motorist died when their car crashed into a tree at Inglis St in Sale on Sunday afternoon.
