A Lake Bolac fiend caught red handed sharing sickening child abuse material has been jailed for six months.

Steuaret Laidlaw, 41, was sentenced in the Horsham Magistrates’ Court, held in Shepparton, on two charges of distributing child abuse material and one charge of possessing child abuse material.

Laidlaw’s residence was raided by police on January 22, 2022 where police found 91 images and videos of children as young as 4.

Laidlaw distributed disturbing child abuse material, most notably a video of a man sexually assaulting a three-year-old child.

Text messages seized from Laidlaw’s phone also revealed he “wanted to rape” a 14-year-old girl.

Laidlaw had previously said “he was not thinking clearly” and that he did not gain “sexual satisfaction” from possessing and sharing the disturbing footage.

Magistrate Amina Bhai took into account Laidlaw’s limited criminal history and lack of relevant priors, however the “seriousness of the offending” meant some jail time had to be served, she said.

The court heard Laidlaw suffered from epilepsy and ADHD and also had a mild learning disability. Laidlaw will be placed on the sex offenders’ registry, and will have to report to police for the rest of his life.

Following his term of imprisonment, Laidlaw will serve a 21 month community corrections order.

Laidlaw has challenged the ruling and will be bailed to attend the Horsham County Court in June for an appeal.
