A warrant has been issued for a Goulburn Valley man facing a string of sexual assault allegations against children after he failed to turn up for his hearing in court.
Shane David Wilson, 47, did not front Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 30 despite facing 17 sexual assault charges — including charges of sexual penetration against a child — dating back to 2013.
Mr Wilson had been due to face a committal mention, which is where a defendant will indicate to the court whether they intend to plead guilty or not guilty.
The alleged offending occurred in the Melbourne suburb of Narre Warren and the Murray river township of Cobram between 2013 and 2018.
Magistrate Simon Zebrowski issued the warrant for Mr Wilson after he failed to appear in the courtroom, despite numerous pages from his clerk.
Mr Zebrowski told prosecutor Connor Rattray “these are very serious charges” and issued the warrant for his arrest once it was known Mr Wilson was not present in the courthouse.
Mr Wilson was charged by police on July 31, 2023.
