A young Thurgoona man is accused of stealing $75,000 worth of mobile phones from stores in Albury and Wodonga before selling them in Melbourne.

Two extradited from Victoria over alleged $500,000 opal theft

A Thurgoona man has been charged with almost 30 theft related offences after allegedly stealing $75,000 worth of mobile phones.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District’s Proactive Crime team started investigating in September last year after reports parcels had been tampered with at telecommunications stores in Albury and Wodonga.

Police were told nearly $75,000 worth of mobile phone parcels were stolen while in transit between May and October 2021.

The phones were allegedly on-sold in Melbourne.

Police attended a home on Mahogany Court, Thurgoona, on Tuesday morning where they arrested a 24-year-old man who was charged with 29 offences.

The man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Albury Local Court on Monday 21 February 2022.
