SENATOR Derryn Hinch was proudly walking around at the races today with a glass of wine — of the non-alcoholic variety.
Hinch made headlines in September when his now ex-girlfriend Natasha Chadwick alleged that he was back drinking after his liver transplant.
“I actually sent some Edenval, non-alcoholic shiraz here by courier yesterday, you can go and check with the barman, that’s what I’m drinking,” he said.
The Senator, who spent the day in Emirates, said he is accepted the criticism he got from the drinking revelations.
“I don’t back of from it,” he said.
“The worst thing I did I am told, was on Christmas Day, I had a glass of Grange and I watered it down.
“I got more criticism about that, then that I occasionally have a glass of wine.”
Senator Hinch was part of a top heavy crowd in Emirates, including fellow politician, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.
They were joined by billionaire Gina Rinehart, who is hoping to buy the Kidman cattle empire.
“Gina said to me ‘we can’t talk too long, people will think we are talking about Kidman,’” Senator Hinch said.
“I told her, we are, we are talking about Nicole Kidman.”
The Senator said he is enjoying every minute of being in Parliament.
“I am so excited,” he said.
“I can’t wait to get back to Canberra and get stuck into things again.”
