Sophie Cachia has made the admission that she might not marry her fiancee Maddie Garrick.
The businesswoman and influencer announced the couple’s engagement in March after she proposed to the Australian basketballer.
It came two and a half years after Cachia split from her husband Jaryd Cachia, with whom she shares two children.
“People would probably say why did you propose, well it’s that commitment to Mads,” Cachia said while discussing her new book Then There Was Her on Booktopia.
“She’s made such a commitment to myself and my children and I felt like I want to give her that commitment from my side as well. To be like, ‘we are in this, we are a family now’.
“Do we want to get married any time soon? No. My book is all about how you’re allowed to change your mind at any stage of your life. In six months we might go, ‘hey let’s get married next week’. Who knows.
“Mads has some really big basketball career ambitions that she really wants to focus on and I want to support her to do that. Job and career satisfaction is really important to us.”
Garrick said having their own lives and individual ambitions works for them.
“We both support each other in what we want to do in our careers and our life,’’ Garrick said.
“When you’re talking about timelines and stuff I know it’s just people are genuinely asking because they’re curious and are happy for us.
“Now that we’re engaged it’s ‘OK, when are you having your wedding?’. My answer is always well that’s the last (thing) on our list... we do want to at one point.”
