Hallelujah! Melbourne’s most prominent Christian radio co-hosts have seen the light and shacked up together.
It certainly shines new light on waking up “positive” with Lucy and Kel!
Those feeling anything but positive on their commute across the Westgate Bridge have been wondering just what the rainbow-hued bubbly billboards promoting positivity and The Light with Lucy and Kel are all about.
Turns out The Light on the 89.9FM bandwidth is what was formerly known as the Christian Radio Network, which was formed in the 70s with an aim “to bring hope to a hopeless world”.
Praise be!
Which brings us to theatre star and Kylie Minogue impersonator Lucy Holmes, who has served as the longest female radio host on Christian radio in Australia, clocking up more than 13 years as brekkie host on The Light.
For years, loyal listeners have tuned in to hear all about Lucy’s ups and downs, her tears and triumphs with her ever-smiling sidekick and co-host Kel McWilliam.
But listeners have been left confused as to some holes in their wholesome story. Lucy and Kel had not revealed they were not just co-hosts and “best friends” as they continually trumpeted on air, but bedfellows too.
We called the relevant parties this week, which brought new meaning to godspeed. Not an hour after our call and The Light was suddenly in “executive meetings.”
A hasty social media post got all confessional: “I have some wonderful news I’ve been wanting to share, and now feels like the right time,” Holmes posted (hmmm, funny that).
“Through those long months of curfews and isolation and keeping each other company every morning, laughing at the most ridiculous things on air, we realised our friendship of 14 years ran deeper than we imagined. So quietly and slowly, we started seeing each other.”
The network later released a statement to Page 13 saying everything was all kumbaya and that Lucy and Kel’s new relationship fell in line with their Christian values.
Phew!
It’s understood McWilliam’s marriage ended recently.
Holmes was formerly married to Derek Bailey and recently resolved a messy legal dispute over the rights for her to perform her “100 per cent Kylie” tribute show.
We just can’t get those billboards out of our head.
