LAKE DRIES OUT

Safe to say Brian Lake won’t be sad to see 2018 behind him.

The Norm Smith medallist and triple Hawthorn premiership player has had what can only be described as the year from hell.

WHAT WAS BEHIND BRIAN LAKE’S JAPAN BENDER?

CRITICAL MOVES THAT LED TO LAKE’S FREEDOM

He has described how he hit rock bottom after failing to cope with life after football.

“You probably should deal with your issues, but I decided, to an extent, to run away from them — I couldn’t handle it,” Lake said in October.

“If you’re not in the right headspace when you’re drinking then it’s amazing when you have a few, that bad things can happen.”

A late-night brawl in Osaka in July after a phone rant with his estranged wife resulted in Lake being put in solitary in a police cell.

At breaking point after six gruelling days, he was released.

Brian returned to his Caroline Springs home, only to see his mother die after a long battle with cancer.

“You look at life and you think, s---, it’s not panning out the way that you expected,” Lake said.

“But you’ve got kids and no matter how bad life gets, you’ve got other people around you.”

Today, Lake’s manager Marty Pask said the former AFL star was back home after a month in a Thailand rehab facility to detox.

Pask said it was head down and bum up for Lake, who was back working full-time and looking forward to Christmas with his family.

When the going gets tough, tough guys like Lake get going.

WAGS’S REVENGE SCORN

Forget revenge porn, 2018 was all about revenge scorn.

WAGs took to social media to out their cheating boyfriends.

We discovered a footballer has a penchant for hooters and swimming.

Then there was the love triangle between people named Dayne, Kalinda and Tahlia and, no, these were not names from Love Island and Kalinda wasn’t aware of the love dump.

Earlier in the year an alarming video of a Collingwood player was uploaded, or in this case unloaded, on social media.

DANE SWAN NUDE VIDEO ACCUSED DODGES COURT

The one-eyed-Pie-boggling imagery left little to the imagination. This time, it was neither revenge porn nor revenge scorn. Only one player was involved in the fevered footage.

But former Pies star and Brownlow medallist Dane Swan took Georgia May Gibson to court for allegedly leaking raunchy footage of them together.

Gibson failed to front Melbourne Magistrates’ Court after being charged with visually capturing genitalia and distribution of an intimate image.

More when the tawdry saga goes back to court next year.

HOUSE OF KENNEDY TEETERS

Legal disputes with creditors and suppliers and a mass culling of the House of Kennedy’s marketing team had Page 13’s ears pricked.

What was happening at the upmarket retailer dubbed the House of Cards by its sacked staff?

WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON IN THE HOUSE OF KENNEDY?

HOUSE OF KENNEDY OR HOUSE OF CARDS?

Disgruntled sources lined up to dish dirt instead of diamonds about the owners of the luxury watch and jewellery retailer.

Page 13 revealed the group’s association with high-end brands such as Bang and Olufsen and Patek Philippe was, well, strained. And that’s being kind.

Stories followed of over-the-top antics from James Kennedy and his wife Jaimee, or Mr and Mrs Kennedy as they liked their staff to address them. The latest was that Mrs Kennedy had it written into her contract that she would judge the Fashions on the Field on Oaks Day. Kennedy was the naming rights sponsor, but Mrs Kennedy threw a wobbly and refused to judge when things ran 10 minutes late.

You might remember the Kennedys were married earlier this year in Florence at the same palazzo as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Meanwhile, there are still disputes behind the scenes with Melbourne haute couture designers J’Aton seeking legal advice about wedding dress(es) allegedly commissioned by the Kennedys and scrapped at the 11th hour.

HOT POTATO!

Only a Wiggle could put a happy spin on his breakup with another Wiggle. Lachy Gillespie told Page 13 he and Emma Watkins were more in love now they were apart.

Far from feeling blue, the purple Wiggle said he and yellow Emma had found peace in separation after announcing their split in August.

It was all Romp, Bomp A Stomp when the skivvy-wearing duo fell in love while working together for the children’s supergroup. They tied the knot in 2016.

So, it came as a shock when the always-smiling Wiggles power couple announced the wheels had fallen off the Big Red Car.

Television can be a brutal game and Stephen Quartermain could no doubt sympathise with Karl Stefanovic after being given the news in May he would no longer be anchoring Ten Eyewitness News.

Quarters was told just moments before he was to go on air that he was being replaced by Seven’s Jennifer Keyte. Cold.

Ralph Carr is another big name who will be happy to see the back of 2018.

The celebrity agent saw long standing high-profile clients such as Kate Ceberano jump ship amid news Carr was embroiled in legal wrangles.

One involved the long-departed Elvis Presley.

Carr strongly denied any money was owed to the Graceland estate. Watch this space.

Antony Catalano resigned abruptly as boss of Domain Holdings in January. A confident Catalano told Page 13 to take no notice of the doomsayers. He was back in the news last month after a failed 11th hour attempt to de-rail the Nine-Fairfax merger.
