Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan reunite on Neighbours set

More than 30 years after Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan last appeared on Neighbours, the pair has offered a sneak peek at their return to set.

Television’s most anticipated moment has almost arrived with the first glimpse of Scott and Charlene back on Ramsay St.

More than 30 years after Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan last appeared on Neighbours, the pair has offered a sneak peek at themselves returning to set for the soap’s finale airing later this month.

And the pictures don’t disappoint, with the pair reprising their roles as Erinsborough’s favourite couple.

The two global superstars — Kylie clad in overalls and Jason wearing a flannel shirt — ensured it would be a fairytale ending for the homegrown series after 37 years.

“So good to be back with this absolute legend @kylieminogue. Scott and Charlene final scenes,’’ Donovan wrote with a love heart.

Kylie captioned her images: “Now we’re back together.”

They quietly filmed their scenes at the end of April with both confirming their return via Instagram and pictures of what appeared to be a script.

Minogue has since said it was a delight to take a trip down memory lane at Pin Oak Court in Vermont South where she started her acting career before going on to launch an international singing career.

Donovan also carved a hugely successful music career off the back of the show.

“It was lovely, emotional, driving into Ramsay Street was quite something,’’ Minogue said.

“Firstly where’s all that time gone, secondly everything looks exactly the same, thirdly Scott and Charlene, Jane, Harold, it all came flooding back, there was a lot of talking about memories and going back in time.”

Kylie wore her famous overalls and Jason donned a flannel shirt.

The pair signed memorabilia.

Minogue appeared on Neighbours as the frizzy haired tomboy Charlene from 1986 to 1988. Donovan played Scott Robinson until 1989.

Their wedding episode was watched by more than two million Australian viewers when it first aired in 1987 and it later attracted almost 20 million people when it was shown in the UK the following year.

They also teamed up for 1988 duet “Especially For You”, which sold more than a million copies in Britain alone and topped the charts across Europe and Australasia.

Kylie and Jason will play a “very special part” in the finale, according to producers.

Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison told the Herald Sun the finale storyline had not yet leaked and Kylie and Jason would play a “very special part”.

He said it wouldn’t have felt right to end without them.

“What I’ve read is not what happens which is great,” he said.

“It hasn’t come out yet.

“Seeing Kylie back as Charlene was quite a moment. Very special and I think for them too it was a real full circle for them.”

The final episode of Australia’s longest running drama will air on Network 10 in a gripping and emotional 90-minute finale on July 28 at 7.30pm.
