The much-anticipated ending of long-running soap Neighbours has yet to be revealed as the show’s biggest day of filming took place on Tuesday.
Executive producer Jason Herbison said the finale — believed to feature Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who returned to the show late last month — had been kept a tight secret.
“What I’ve read is not what happens which is great. It hasn’t come out yet,’’ Herbison said.
“How do you end a show after 37 years? It’s not an easy question. I had an idea, a little bit of a vision, quite a while ago and I’ve stuck to that vision. I felt in my heart how I wanted to end it, which is very warm and very celebratory.”
He added: “Kylie and Jason were wonderful. It was very emotional for them, as well. Seeing Kylie back as Charlene was quite a moment. Very special and I think for them too it was a real full circle for them”.
Herbison said it was starting to feel emotional on set as the last day of filming approaches on June 10.
The final episode will air on August 1.
“It’s a really emotional time for the cast and the crew,’’ he said.
“But a real time of celebration, as well. It’s so wonderful to see so many former cast (members) back on the show and I really hope the viewers will enjoy how we’re finishing the show.”
It’s believed more cast are returning with Guy Pearce among the names rumoured to be visiting Ramsay Street again.
“I will say, but wait there’s more,’’ Herbison said.
“We definitely have a few more returning cast that haven’t been announced yet. But everyone we have approached has been warm in their approach.
“We really have felt like the last few months have been a big hug from the audience and this is a hug back.”
