The Rundown: Nadia Bartel bounces back on the media circuit as a ‘friend of Caulfield’

The influencer is saddling up for a new role at the races one year on from her infamous “plate gate” scandal.

Nadia Bartel: fallout from the white powder video continues

The Rundown is your weekly sneak peek behind the scenes of TV and radio.

A year after her “white powder on a Kmart plate” scandal, Nadia Bartel is returning to the media fray.

Bartel, who also had to face the music in March after being caught driving without a license, has been named a “friend of Caulfield” for the Caulfield Cup Carnival to promote the races and what you can get up to at the track.

Bartel is listed to attend the media launch event of the Carnival on Thursday night in her “friend” role.

The influencer has spent much of the past year focusing on her fashion label Henne.

It was in September last year that ‘plate gate’ blew up after a video went live on her best mate’s social media of Bartel leaning over a cheap piece of crockery with several lines of white powder on it.

Plate gate resulted in Bartel and three mates being fined for holding an illegal gathering which breached the then Covid-19 rules.

The Caulfield Cup Carnival will be broadcast on Channel 7.

Bartel’s ex-husband, former Geelong champion Jimmy Bartel, announced on Saturday he and his new partner Amelia Shepperd were expecting their first child together.

The star of Channel 10’s revamped love seeking series The Bachelors is recovering in hospital following a horror motorcycle accident.

Thomas Malucelli, who is one of three men handing out roses on The Bachelors, was rushed to hospital on Sunday suffering a broken collarbone, torn ligaments and cuts and bruising after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in an accident in Sydney.

The 35-year-old said on Instagram while wearing a neck brace in his hospital bed he was “grateful to be alive.”

“Hit the ground pretty hard but I’m so grateful that my body is a miracle,” he wrote.

“Feeling so grateful to be alive right now.

He added on Tuesday: “A few scratches and bruises but I’m okay. Being looked after so well.”

Malucelli, a fitness coach from Sydney, is one of the stars of the new season of The Bachelors alongside Victorians Felix Von Hofe and Jed McIntosh.

It is widely believed that he and McIntosh failed to find partners on the show and are still single. It is also believed The Bachelors won’t be seen on 10 until next year.

Channel 10 has been contacted as to whether Malucelli will be well enough to attend the network’s Upfront programming announcements on Thursday.

Ed sinks the Love Boat

A Channel 10 star has taken a stunning pot shot at one of the network’s biggest new show’s tipping its demise before the much-hyped reality series has even set sail.

Ed Kavalee would seem to have little faith in Ten’s new series The Real Love Boat, in which singles will float around the Mediterranean on a cruise liner and hook up for the cameras in a search for true love – and either a tan or sunburn.

When asked on Have You Been Paying Attention what show a particular ad was promoting Kavalee gleefully replied: “Premiering right here on the Ten Network and soon to be moved to a later timeslot, it is The Real Love Boat.” Ouch!

Kavalee regularly takes cheeky swipes at Ten on Have You Been Paying Attention.

The fact that his spiky comments don’t get cut out of the show is proof that Ten executives have a sense of humour and are not thin skinned.

The Real Love Boat coming soon

Recently Kavalee took aim at the minuscule ratings of Ten’s underperforming morning show Studio 10.

When describing Ten’s reality series, Hunted, he offered an unexpected way for contestants, or fugitives as they are known on the show, to hide from the crack investigative team tracking them.

“They have to evade capture, they have to make sure that no one can see them, so they are all hiding on Studio 10,” he said.

The Real Love Boat casts off on Wednesday, October 5.

Patti Newton will step back into the spotlight in a role she believes has been sent from heaven by beloved TV legend Bert Newton.

Bert lost his long battle with ill health on October 30 last year aged 83.

His much-loved wife Patti will be seen in the stage musical extravaganza Mary Poppins as the Bird Lady in the production’s Brisbane season which begins later this month.

“I think Bert sent me this role from heaven really because it is something he would love,” Patti told 3AW’s Remember When.

“He would probably say first up is there a role in it for me and if there was not a role in it for him he would probably say, ’Well, I think you should take it, it will be beautiful for you.”

Another pink moment for Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams has recycled his eye-catching AFL Grand Final hot pink suit.

Williams, who put on a spectacular pre-game show at the Grand Final, appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in the UK (the UK version of Dancing With The Stars) earlier this week sporting the distinctive ensemble.

No matter how many times he wears it, that suit will always be known by Australians as his footy clobber.

Live TV perils for Bunn

Channel 7’s Jane Bunn fell victim to the perils of live TV crosses during the Melbourne Royal Show.

As Bunn was doing a weather cross surrounded by show goers on one of the packed pedestrian paths among the sideshow alley stalls, a youngster walked into shot sporting a Channel 9 cap.

While there were no words on the cap the Nine logo was large and distinctive and the showgoer – perhaps a budding future marketer – found the perfect spot to stand so she was in frame for Bunn’s entire cross.

Australian Idol is making news again and so is one of the show’s former winners.

Kate DeAraugo, who won Idol in 2005 and had a very public fall from grace after being charged with drugs and weapon related offences in 2017, has turned her life around and is expecting her first child with her partner, Shannon Riseley.

The baby is due in November.

Meanwhile Idol, with judges Kyle Sandilands, Amy Shark, Harry Connick Jr and Meghan Trainor, will film audition rounds at the Melbourne Showgrounds on October 17 and 18.
