Aussie TV king Ray Martin reveals shock Gold Logie theft from his days at Nine

Ray Martin has won a staggering five Gold Logies throughout his career. Unfortunately, he only has four of the awards to show for it — and he has his theories as to who nabbed it.

Australian TV legend Ray Martin has revealed one of his precious Gold Logies has been stolen.

Martin, who has been honoured with the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter being named after him at this year’s Logies, won the Gold Logie as the most popular person on Australian TV a record five times.

But he only has four of the awards in his possession after a mysterious theft.

“Someone stole one in my Current Affair days,” Martin said.

“I would have them on the shelves around the place with other books at Nine – my (office) door was always open and people would come and go.

“There were five there and then one disappeared, so it is somewhere, I don’t know where it is these days. I have heard various versions of who took it, but I have not been bothered in tracking it down.”

Of his four remaining Golds, Martin has them tucked away at home in Sydney.

“They are up on a shelf, way up the back of one of the bookshelves,” he said.

“The old joke of them propping open the bathroom door, is not quite true, but they are not in pride of place. I’ve got my South Sydney football stuff and photos of my kids way in front of them.”

The 65th edition of the Logies, hosted by Sam Pang, will be held next Sunday. Martin hosted the award twice, including a rare period where the Logies were ‘dry’ and no alcohol was poured during the broadcast.

“The Oscars are dry and so the idea was to try and make them dry, and it just did not work; Aussies need a drink and often need too many drinks,” Martin said.

Martin said he was humbled to have an award named after him.

“I’m deeply honoured,” he said.

“I honestly thought that the only time it (a naming honour) was given to TV people was when they were dead, so I had to just check my pulse to make sure I was still here.”
