Survivor star Jordie Hansen tells of life’s ‘profound’ changes with fiancee Sam Frost

Jordie Hansen can’t believe he’s about to become a parent with Home and Away star Sam Frost as he revealed his real feelings about Survivor.

Survivor star Jordie Hansen has spoken of his love for former Home And Away star Sam Frost, their whirlwind romance, and the blessing that is their pending parenthood.

Frost is due to give birth to the couple’s first child in six weeks.

“It is starting to get real. I can’t believe it, honestly, I feel so blessed, I am just so grateful,” Hansen said.

Frost and Hansen met through her brother, Alex, after Hansen and Alex became mates when they took part in the 2022 season of Australian Survivor.

Survivor, Hansen admits, has profoundly changed his life.

“The experience itself changes you. To go out there (on the show) you have to be a resilient person, but you come away from it having learnt a lot about yourself and even more resilient,” he said.

“But then, for me, it (Survivor) also changed my whole life. I met my partner Sam through Survivor. Last season I was on Survivor with her brother Alex and obviously met Sam through him and my whole world changed after that.

“It will be nice to be able to tell the story to our son of how we met and the genuine connection that we shared.

“It is far from the world of Tinder and Hinge, isn’t it?”

Frost and Hansen announced their engagement in July last year after dating for a mere five months.

It was a whirlwind romance but when you know, you know.

“To be honest I think anyone of my calibre that gets the opportunity to spend the rest of their life with someone of the likes of Sam Frost, you are going to jump in, you are not going to hold back,” he said.

“I would be a silly man to let that one go. I am very lucky.”

Hansen said it was Frost who encouraged him to do Survivor again after the show offered him a place among this season’s tribe. Australian Survivor has a heroes and villains theme this year.

However, leaving Frost in Melbourne in the early stages of her pregnancy to go and film the show in August/September last year was a tough decision, but it was Frost who urged him to grab the opportunity.

“She was there when I got the call and she was possibly even more excited for me than I was,” Hansen said.

“It was very much the most difficult decision I have had to make in a long time, leaving Sam at home in the early period of pregnancy, you start questioning your priorities and what is important.

“No amount of prizemoney can take away the prize of having a baby, so you are trying to weigh those things up. It wasn’t an easy decision, but Sam kicked me out the door and said I had to go.”

Survivor is a passion for the charming tradie. He had auditioned several times before being cast on the show’s 2022 season and then getting invited back for this series.

“Survivor is about making 1000 decisions in one day and just hoping that they all are right,” he said.

But the harsh conditions in Samoa, where the show is set this season, took him by surprise.

“The tropical weather in Samoa, I have never experienced before. It was the humidity and the rain that got us,” Hansen said.

“It was difficult. Just picture walking through a forest that is damp, where the sun struggles to get in, everything is wet, all your clothes are wet, and you just can’t get dry. Samoa is a much tougher place than the Australian outback, if you ask me.”

Hansen will test his wits against a cast that includes Hayley Leake, Shaun Hampson, Benjamin Law, David Zaharakis, Liz Parnov and Sarah Marschke when Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains launches on Channel 10 on Monday, January 30.
