Former Home And Away favourite Sam Frost has opened up about her wedding plans following her whirlwind engagement to Australian Survivor contestant Jordie Hansen.

The couple met through Frost’s brother and announced their engagement in July after dating for five months.

Hansen proposed to Frost in Coober Pedy with an opal ring from the area.

“I am not a diamond person,” Frost said on her Instagram stories.

“I love gemstones and crystals and I’ve always liked unique rings. So this is perfect, he did very well.

“Our wedding will be pretty unique to us, too.

“We haven’t started planning, but we know it’ll be pretty low-key. We just want to celebrate our love with an intimate group of our favourite people, most likely next year in spring/summer.”

She also said she would keep her surname after they wed.

“I don’t plan on changing my surname,” she said.

“I told Jord that on our first date, to manage expectations.

“He didn’t bat an eyelid and replied, ‘That’s fair enough, why should you change your name’.”

“I love that people do, it’s a beautiful commitment.

“But for me, I’ve always felt uncomfortable about it. It’s my identity, it’s my family and I feel deeply connected to my surname.

“Very grateful to have a supportive and understanding partner.

“Our future babies will be ‘Hansen’ though.”

Hunnam gets a date

Shantaram, the TV series that was filmed in Melbourne and stars Sons Of Anarchy pin-up Charlie Hunnam, finally has a release date.

The 10-part drama, based on a book of the same name by Gregory David Roberts, will premiere on Apple TV+ on October 14.

A large part of the Shantaram story was filmed in Melbourne, with Hunnam spottings becoming quite a sport during his time in the city.

The production was halted in May 2020 because of the Covid pandemic and restarted in Melbourne in November 2021.

Filming also took place in India and Thailand.

Shantaram has taken a long time to get to the screen.

The novel, for which Roberts leaned heavily on his own experiences as an escapee from prison in Melbourne after he spent ten years as a fugitive in Bombay before being recaptured, was a bestseller in the early 2000s and was originally optioned by Johnny Depp’s production company as a film in which Depp would star.

Then plans changed and Depp sounded out Joel Edgerton to star in the film.

The film plans never came to fruition and the epic tale has now been told as a drama series by Apple+ TV.

Shantaram follows Lin Ford, who breaks out of Melbourne’s Pentridge Prison and escapes to Bombay, where he creates a new life and identity in the slums, bars and underworld of India.

The series also stars Shubham Saraf, Elektra Kilbey, Fayssal Bazzi, Luke Pasqualino, Alyy Khan, Sujaya Dasgupta, Vincent Perez, David Field, Alexander Siddig, Gabrielle Scharnitzky, Elham Ehsas, Rachel Kamath, Matthew Joseph and Shiv Palekar.

Cachia wants her say

Super-influencer Sophie Cachia’s management has asked for consistency from Ad Standards and its community panel investigations.

Cachia’s manager, Bruce Kaider, said he was concerned Cachia had not been given the opportunity to respond to the panel’s investigation last month into a post she made while holidaying at the Paradise Resort on the Gold Coast.

The advertiser, in this case the resort, was found by the panel to have breached the advertising code as it deemed the post was clearly distinguishable as an ad.

Kaider said he was disappointed Cachia had not been contacted as part of the panel’s investigation.

He said Cachia had clearly disclosed her collaboration with the company, was not contacted about the complaint and was not given the opportunity to defend the claim.

“Had we been given the opportunity to provide supporting material, I believe this matter would have been dismissed immediately,” Kaider said.

He said he hoped going forward influencers would be given the opportunity to respond to complaints and investigations by the panel about content in their posts and stories.

“We want consistency and I don’t think you can look at advertisers in isolation without having the influencer be a part of that decision making,” he said.

A spokesperson said Ad Standards regulated the conduct of the advertiser, not influencers.

“Advertisers are responsible for ensuring compliance with the industry codes,” the spokesperson said.

“Advertisers can request an independent review if they disagree with the Community Panel’s decision.”

Tributes for McLeod’s Daughters star

McLeod’s Daughters star Marshall Napier has lost his battle with brain cancer.

Napier, who appeared in hit TV dramas, including the much-loved rural drama McLeod’s Daughters, City Homicide, Love Child, Police Rescue, Water Rats, Blue Heelers, All Saints and Janet King, passed away on Sunday aged 70.

He also appeared in Doctor Doctor, The Moody’s, Rake, Jack Irish, Underbelly Files: Tell Them Lucifer Was Here, Stingers, Secrets, GP and Rafferty’s Rules.

“It is with great sadness that I share the passing of my beautiful dad Marshall Napier,” his daughter Jessica Napier announced on Instagram.

“After a short and intense battle with brain cancer he left us this morning. He was peaceful and surrounded by family.”

Jessica is also an actor and she shared the screen with her father on McLeod’s Daughters.

Napier was born in New Zealand in 1951 and in 1988 moved with his wife and young family to Australia. His acting career covered film, TV and theatre.

Tributes flowed for Napier from his former co-stars.

Daniel MacPherson recalled the impact Napier had on him as an actor.

“Was fortunate enough to work with the incredible Marshall Napier on City Homicide,” MacPherson wrote on Twitter.

“Me as the young punk, him the wily old fox. The odd couple. I didn’t know how lucky I was.

“I just knew I loved going to set everyday, laughing, creating, finding joy in every aspect of the work with Marshall. Thank you mate, thank you more than you know.”

Napier’s McLeod’s Daughters co-star Racheal Carpani was another to pay tribute.

“His was charisma itself. He was incredibly funny – usually at inappropriate moments – and he was like a sprinkle of magic dust, when you were near him you were young and fun and loud and you felt like you could soar,” she posted.

Myles Pollard, another McLeod’s Daughters cast member, said on Instagram: “He was a legend! So many great memories chatting with him on set and hearing all his crazy stories making films in the ’70s and ’80s. I really looked up to him.”
