Former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has revealed a pair of lucky undies were part of his game day preparation during his decorated playing career.
Now appearing on Channel 10’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here, Buckley is starting to open up to his TV camp mates and give some insight into the mindset that made him a champion player and coaching mentor.
“I used to be really organised with the way that I prepared for a game, like same undies, a few little things, superstitions that would take place,” Buckley says on the show.
“Well, one of them when I was playing for Collingwood, was to have a plain ham sandwich.
“Now the lady that used to make the sandwiches for us was named Anne Martin, she passed last year, but (it) just reminds me about the little contributions, that when you least expect it, people come into your life that help you along your way.”
Buckley provided the drama for the show last week, fainting after a grotesque eating challenge which saw him ingest a bull’s penis stuffed with chilli and swallow a shot of cow urine with drunken worms.
But the AFL great was keen on Friday to set the record straight.
“We have used the word ‘fainting’ too much,” he said. “I was not sacked, I stood down, I did not faint, I passed out, let’s make this clear.”
