The cards have fallen the right way for colourful Melbourne businessman Mick Gatto who outplayed all comers to win the annual Poker With The Stars charity tournament for the third time.
Gatto won a zippy $20,000 MG3 car for his efforts which he immediately donated to a lady who had played on his first table of the evening and had shared her story about losing the use of her legs after being hit by a drink driver when aged just 20.
Moved by her harrowing experience he promised her the vehicle if he won.
And he was true to his word.
Runner up in the tournament was Harry Fox.
When it was suggested he was a formidable card player, a modest Gatto said he was “just lucky.”
Poker With The Stars, presented by the Hachem Management Group, was held at the Grand Hyatt with guests including Shane and Jackson Warne, James and Daniel Hachem, Brendan Fevola, Dane Swan, Darren Jolly, Trent Croad and Kate Jesaulenko, Simon Madden, Peter Daicos, Pettifleur Berenger, Paige McCluskey, and Michael Tuck putting on their poker face.
The evening supported Giant Steps, which offers schooling and support services for children and adults with Autism and the Australian Sports Foundation.
