Jackson Warne claims he’s still tough despite ‘living a comfortable life’

Jackson Warne admits he lives a very comfortable life, so challenging himself in military-style show SAS Australia was an opportunity to try new things – like steak and mandarins for the first time.

Jackson Warne has revealed the motivation behind his life changing TV debut experience on gruelling military style show, SAS Australia.

The 21 year-old son of cricket legend Shane Warne, Jackson said he wanted to prove he could get out of his comfort zone and is confident he will make his family proud.

“I really live by this quote, ‘get comfortable being uncomfortable’,” Warne told the Herald Sun.

“As someone who has lived a pretty comfortable life their whole life, hasn’t really had to struggle for much, didn’t really have a tough childhood. I was loved, got a good family, went to a good school.

“I wanted to show just because I have all these nice and easy things, I can still do the tough stuff, I can still get my hands dirty and crawl around in the mud.

“I’m not just this stay at home, have-it-easy type of guy. For me it was a perfect opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and I’ve never done anything like it.”

Warne added: “I think my mum (Simone Callahan) and my two sisters (Brooke and Summer), every time the ad comes on they are so excited. When they actually see it they’re like, woah.

“With my Dad, he’ll be so proud of me because he knows I’ve had a pretty comfortable life and I live pretty comfortably. I go to the gym and see my friends so this to me is a big step out of my comfort zone.”

Warne said he emerged from the Snowy Mountains with a renewed appreciation for what he has.

A star poker player like his Dad, Warne said he had been surprised by how well he handled the tough challenge, along with other celebrities such as Merrick Watts, who he called Dad, Candice Warner, Schapelle Corby, Nick Cummins and Shayna Jack.

“Leading up to the show I’d only probably eaten 10 different foods — burgers, pizzas, cereal, toast, eggs, bacon and that’s about it,’’ he said.

“I was actually really proud eating my first steak, trying my first mandarin, chicken, all that sort of stuff.

“As weird as it sounds as a 21 year-old not eating all these foods, it’s a big step.

“Two of the biggest things I took away from the whole course was one, appreciate just having shelter, food and water and being warm.

“All the little things we take for granted every day. The other thing is time. What we had to do in five minutes or 10 minutes or 30 seconds, whether it be pack our bags, fill up our water bottles, get boots on. If we’ve got 24 hours in a day, we’ve got so much time if we prioritise correctly.”

Warne has only left his Melbourne home during lockdown to film the series.

“This wasn’t really a TV show for me in the sense of trying to get on TV or to get an experience of what it would be like being on a TV show,’’ he said.

“One of the things I was struggling with when going on the show was socialising and meeting people. It was cool to get over that bit of fear I’ve got as well.

“I’ve got life long friends.”

SAS Australia premieres Monday October 19 at 7.30pm on Channel 7 and will air twice a week, Monday and Tuesday.
