Jackson Warne has his dad’s competitive nature and a burning desire to leave a legacy in the sport of his choice. This is what he hopes to be remembered for.

Shane Warne’s son Jackson is hoping the cards call in his favour having set his sights on being a professional poker player.

The 21-year-old ace player developed a love for the game alongside his famous father and now sees it as his career calling.

And having inherited his father’s competitive nature, Jackson has no interest in being average at the game.

“It (is) something I definitely want to do professionally,” he told the A Few Off The Wood podcast.

“I see myself definitely in five, 10, 15 years … doing this. I want to leave a legacy in the poker world so when I am dad’s age, 50, 60, people can walk into the Crown poker room, or go online, and see stats or be like, ‘Who won that tournament? Jackson Warne won,’ rather than Shane Warne’s son.

“I want to leave my mark in the poker world as Jackson Warne.”

Jackson has good mentors, with 2005 World Series of Poker champion, Joe Hachem, a close family friend. His dad approves of his son’s ambitions.

“It is actually a sport, tournament poker, and it is played all over the world,” Shane said.

“Teaching Jackson at a young age when we used to go on holidays together to play poker and then him developing that skill, that is something we can do together. The good news is poker goes to some pretty cool places that cricket didn’t.”

Jackson is also chancing his luck with reality TV. He has signed on for Channel 7’s celebrity SAS show which will film in Australia later this year.

The show was originally to film in New Zealand in March but the COVID-19 crisis scuttled those plans.
