The son of former spin king Shane Warne says he admires his dad’s passion and stellar cricket career but there’s one reason he won’t follow in his footsteps.
Jackson, 20, who played for Brighton Grammar in Year 10, said being the son of a legend on the cricket pitch was too much.
“I did play cricket and I enjoyed it but not the expectation everyone had of me,” Jackson said.
“I took a hat-trick one game but it was just the pressure.”
Jackson’s short-lived cricket career was live tweeted from the sidelines by his famous father but he says his ultimate choice of sport at school hadn’t gone down all that well at home.
“I played lawn bowls during my last year of school and dad wasn’t a fan.”
When it comes to cricket, the Warne children have seen it all, having travelled with their dad at times during his career.
In the lead up to the Cricket World Cup, where every game will be streamed live on Kayo Sports, Australia’s multi-sport streaming service, Jackson and his sister Brooke are starring in their first TVC.
And their king of spin dad, Shane, helped direct behind the scenes.
“Dad is one of the most natural commentators because he knows what he’s talking about and he’s humorous too,’’ said Brooke, 21.
“We’ve watched our share of cricket over the years and we’re proud of him.”
Jackson said he was surprised by how comfortable he felt in front of the camera.
“For me it was way easier than I thought it would be,’’ he said.
“I was scared but it’s an unbelievable opportunity for both of us. I’d like to do it more, there was no pressure.
The Warnes’ TVC will air from Sunday with the theme that while every match of the CWC is shown live, there are also 50 other sports to enjoy on Kayo.
Warne said he enjoyed watching his children shine in front of the camera.
“As with all kids, having a laugh at dad’s expense comes pretty easy so once they were comfortable in front of the camera we got some really funny takes,’’ he said.
“It was a different experience being behind the camera this time, but they both did an amazing job. Brooke is very confident and outgoing and Jackson has had some experience with content creation so they picked it up very quickly.

“It was a great experience to do something fun and different with my kids before I get stuck into the World Cup coverage. Whilst they may not be diehard cricket fans, they’ve said they enjoy listening to my commentary which is nice to hear.”
