Having suddenly up and quit her high-profile TV gig Jacqui Felgate looks to be forging a relationship with one of Melbourne’s most powerful radio brands.
Could airwaves rather than the TV screen be the next big move for the popular news reader who shocked fans by suddenly walking away from her newsroom role at Channel 7 in April.
Felgate appears to be tuned in to giving radio a crack having been tapped by 3AW for a surprise out of ratings run behind the microphone.
Felgate will host 3AW’s Afternoon program from June 27 – July 8 while regular host Dee Dee Dunleavy is away during the annual winter ratings survey break.
Felgate is the food reviewer for 3AW’s breakfast show.
Survey breaks are often used by stations to trial new talent and hosting combinations and gauge audience reaction to new voices.
3AW is moving a few pieces around its presenter’s chequerboard during this survey break.
Elise Elliott will co-host breakfast alongside Steve Quartermain, while her husband, Tom Elliott, the station’s regular Drive shift presenter, will host Mornings for a week.
Heidi Murphy will host Mornings for the second week of the break. She will also host the Drive shift for week one of the break before handing over that seat to Shane McInnes for week two of the non-ratings fortnight.
Back to Felgate, the former Channel 7 news presenter recently shed more light on her shock decision to pull the pin on the network back in April.
Felgate said on the night of her departure she was leaving to spend more time with her family and, while that is certainly the case, she has added some more detail as to the motivation behind her bold move in an Instagram Q&A.
Asked by a fan for tips if you are in a career rut, Felgate replied “I quit”.
She has been busy with influencer opportunities and MC gig since clearing her diary of Seven commitments and has joined the Chemist Warehouse show House of Wellness as a co-host.
