The Footy Show is about to rise from the ashes and make a spectacular return to the small screen with some familiar faces — but it won’t be back for long.

The Grand Final Eve Footy Show spectacular is being resurrected with Rebecca Maddern set to make a surprise return to footy-mad production.

Maddern and Shane Crawford will join Tony Jones, Billy Brownless, Nathan Brown, Matthew Lloyd, Damian Barrett and Kane Cornes in the three-hour prime-time special which will combine footy with fundraising.

The Grand Final Eve: My Room Telethon will kick a goal for the My Room Children’s Cancer Charity while previewing the 2020 Grand Final.

“I love working with The Footy Show boys. I am really thrilled to be back talking footy on television. I have missed it,” Maddern said.

“Tony (Jones) is going to have a lot of ‘Chompers’ jokes coming his way.

“I am always constantly surprised by the number of people who still stop me in the street that want to talk to me about footy.

“I was not on The Footy Show for 25 years, I was on it for a couple of years, but it is nice to know that it made a big impact in people’s lives.”

Maddern said the show, which airs at 7.30pm on Friday, October 23, would celebrate what has been a unique and unusual AFL season.

“Grand Final eve is a very special night, it is going to be a very different night for so many Victorians,” she said.

“We are not going to be able to go to the pub or to functions in normal numbers, so your best bet is to stay home and watch this show, talk footy and raise some money at the same time.”

Over the past four years the Channel 9 My Room Telethon has raised more than $4.9 million.
