The Footy Show is back for one-night only.
And host Eddie McGuire will be joined by his original sidekicks Sam Newman and Trevor Marmalade for the return of The Grand Final Footy Show on Thursday September 26.
“For one night only we’re putting the band back together again,’’ McGuire said.
“It’s going to be great fun and an old fashioned Footy Show. We said we’d do a couple of specials during the year. There’s been the World Cup of cricket and the Ashes coming up on Nine, so we’re just going to put all our resources into doing the big one.
“It’s the great Grand Final show that we all know and love.”
McGuire stopped short of saying Newman would be given free rein, but said his absence was sorely missed.
“Sam is one of the great performers and we haven’t seen enough of him. People are keen to and he’ll be ready to go,’’ he said.
“It’s not about any of us, it’s about the biggest game of the year. We’re looking to do a fantastic show that pays homage to the show over the last quarter of a century.”
McGuire, Newman and Marmalade started on the show in 1994.
The new-look Footy Show was axed in May after declining ratings forced Channel 9 to act.
McGuire said the return of the Grand Final Footy Show was a win.
“It’ll be a football extravaganza. We’ll be focusing on the Grand Final as well, hopefully with good reason. We’ll be looking back at all the great moments over the years but at the same time we’ll be looking forward to the biggest football match of the year and the Grand Final show is the biggest show on TV.
