FILM heavyweight Russell Crowe has taken aim at Melbourne’s not so wild west.
The Oscar winner has had the suburb of Werribee as his target over the past six months where he has been a regular visitor to home his shooting skills.
But he has not been on the shooting range for his next film, The True History Of The Kelly Gang, rather to sate his latest interest, clay target shooting.

Crowe is being coached by Olympic gold medallist Russell Mark and his wife Lauren at the Werribee Clay Target Club.
“To be honest, he is getting really good at it,” Mark said.
“Lauren and I have been helping him out. He is into targets, not hunting or anything like that.
“We have been helping him for about six or so months and he has developed into a very good marksman.
“He contacted me out of the blue to help him to get started. He is a good bloke. It is just great for our sport that someone of his calibre is getting involved in it.”
Crowe has left his mark on the club — literally — handing out South Sydney Rabbitohs hats and stickers to fellow shooters.
A rabbit sticker was even left as a calling card on a bathroom window at the club last week.
Crowe posted a video on Twitter showing his newly acquired marksmanship skills where he hits four clay targets.
As the start of filming of The True History Of The Kelly Gang epic nears, legendary Hollywood gun coach Thell Reed has arrived in Australia to work with the cast on handling antique rifles.
Crowe and Reed have worked together on films including The Quick and The Dead, LA Confidential, 3:10 to Yuma, and The Water Diviner.
Crowe will play notorious bushranger Harry Power in the film, with Ned Kelly being played by George MacKay.
The film, which is directed by Justin Kurzel, also stars Charlie Hunnam, Nicholas Hoult, Essie Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, George MacKay, Claudia Karvan, Jacob Collins-Levy, Sean Keenan, Earl Cave and Harry Greenwood.
Filming appears set to kick off in the Wangaratta area. There are two days of filming slated for Clunes later this month.
The film is described as being a gothic western and is based on the book by Peter Carey.
