Billy Brownless has revealed after a decade as a full-time member of The Footy Show team he was not even called to be told he was no longer part of the show this year.

Brownless said the launch of the new-look Footy Show was just days away when he finally decided to reach out and end the suspense.

“I was not told a lot, to be honest,” he said.

“I did send a text to someone the week before it launched saying, ‘I am assuming I am not on (the show) but it would be nice just to know something’.

“I would have thought I would have heard from someone.

“I think what probably happened is that Nine probably thought JAM TV had called and they (JAM TV) probably thought they (Nine) had called.

“But it is all OK, it is not a drama.”

Brownless, who co-hosts Triple M’s Rush Hour program, remains part of The Sunday Footy Show this year.

The Geelong great had significant history with The Footy Show stretching back to the late ’90s when he would make regular appearances and was part of the madcap soap send-up, “The House of Bulger”.

He has had an association with The Sunday Footy Show since 2005.

The new-look Footy Show pulled horror ratings last week with just 96,000 viewers in Melbourne.

Adding to the show’s woes, its executive producer, Anthony Watt, has been unable to be in the studio for
its first two episodes owing to a neck injury.

Watt was back on deck late last week and will be at the helm of the show this week.
