Besties turned foes, Billy Brownless and Garry Lyon are back talking to each other.
The two AFL greats — once best friends who worked together and holidayed together with their families — got together after Oscar Brownless was drafted by the Geelong Football Club.
The rift between Lyon and Brownless started in late 2016 after it was revealed Garry Lyon had been having a relationship with Billy’s wife Nicky.

LYON OPENS UP ON MENTAL HEALTH JOURNEY
It broke up the families, with a tearful Brownless going on The Footy Show to tell Sam Newman, “It’s just wrong mate, you don’t touch a man’s wallet, you don’t touch his wife.”
But time and footy can heal all wounds.
Garry Lyon and Nicky Brownless’s relationship continued with the SEN Breakfast Show host crediting Nicky for helping him work through his mental health issues.
A distraught Lyon took time out from his role as host of The Footy Show.
Early last year, in a tearful interview with commentator Mike Sheahan, Lyon revealed he had not spoken to Billy since Christmas 2015. The relationship became public knowledge weeks later in early 2016.
Fast forward and the couple have gone the next step, buying a blue-chip property together.
And not just any home.
The four-bedroom, two-storey Armadale stunner was sold to Garry Lyon and Nicky Brownless for $3.18 million in late August.
It’s near the home Nicky and Billy’s fashion-blogger daughter Lucy, 21, shares with St Kilda young gun and former number one pick boyfriend Paddy McCartin.
Lyon and Brownless won out in a bidding battle with television personality Charlie Pickering.
The couple have moved into the Armadale home and celebrated Oscar’s draft into the Geelong Football Club with Brownless and daughters Lucy and Ruby.
Lyon and Nicky Brownless have been kicking goals in the real estate market. Lyon bought a 20-hectare Mornington Peninsula property for more than $2 million in 2016 and Nicky Brownless sold her luxury four-bedroom house in Geelong’s Newtown for more than $2 million in May. Nicky paid $1.55 million in 2013.
Billy Brownless said he wasn’t in the mood to reignite the headlines, but it was a great day and night after his boy was taken into the cattery.
“It was a very proud day for me,” Brownless said. “I’m happy for the boy.”
Oscar Brownless, 18, has excited the Geelong faithful with the famous surname back at the club.
Oscar credits his Dad, the 198-game, 441 goal Geelong champion, for teaching him the love and fundamentals of the game when kicking a footy in the backyard of their then family Highton home.
Oscar also credited Lyon, the Melbourne Football Club captain as a great source of encouragement, saying Lyon’s footy brain is next to none.
