THE one-time kings of Melbourne’s FM breakfast radio landscape, Steve Bedwell and Tim Smith, have reunited for a series of anniversary gigs.
The pair, who led the FM pack when hosting Triple M breakfast between 1998 and 2001, have marked 21 years since their sold-out shows at Crown’s Mercury Lounge with a run of intimate shows at Fat Bob’s in Moorabbin.

The pair are performing each Thursday in July, with two shows left on the 19th and 26th.
Prior to their first show, they had not performed together for 15 years, nor seen each other for two, but were still friends.
“We sort of had a break from each other (after Triple M) because of the high pressure of breakfast. You spend time with someone at the worst time of the day and you just need a rest,” Bedwell said.
“The great thing is it has been 15 years since we have last done anything like this and suddenly we are finding out just how good we are at bouncing of each other.
“We don’t rehearse, we don’t plan anything before the show. We just bounce.
“Being with Tim again is a dream come true. It is a tremendous camaraderie that we have”
The author and comedian has battled mental health issues over the past decade and continues to manage his health carefully.
“There are still battles to be won, it is an ongoing issue that is being treated with medication,” he said.
“I had ECT shock treatment to get me back on track. It has been a long haul.”
And he hopes to give radio another shot.
“I really want to get back to radio, I think there is some unfinished business there,” he said.
