Filming has begun in Melbourne on a multimillion-dollar Hollywood film with Gladiator star Djimon Hounsou and Bridgerton favourite Phoebe Dynevor leading the cast.
The film, written and directed by Tommy Wirkola, was shooting in Mornington on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
Photos show a large production base set up in the Mornington Pier carpark with boats spotted sporting “Southern Carolina” nameplates.
The film, which is yet to have its title revealed – although is being referred to by locals as the “shark” movie – is expected to inject $30m into the Victorian economy.
Filming took place at Macedon in early July and sections of Maling Road in Canterbury will be closed this weekend (August 3 and 4) for filming.
Filming will also take place at the Docklands Studios.
One large set that has been constructed at the studio was of a South Carolina streetscape. That set was then filled with water so footage could be shot of streets and vehicles awash due to flooding.
Djimon Hounsou, who starred alongside Russell Crowe in the classic Gladiator and is also known for his roles in Gran Turismo and A Quiet Place: Day One with Lupita Nyong’o, is one of the key cast.
Dynevor has a huge fan base thanks to her role as Daphne Bridgerton in the first two seasons of the massive Netflix hit Bridgerton.
She has been holidaying in Queensland with her fiance, fellow actor Cameron Fuller, before they made their way to Melbourne.
Bridgerton fans devoured the raunchy romance between her character and Simon Basset played by the dashing Regé-Jean Page in the regency drama.
She recently starred opposite Alden Ehrenreich in the 2023 thriller Fair Play and turned heads at the Met Gala.
Whitney Peak has also been cast in the film, which is being produced by Adam McKay and Kevin Messick.
