On a cold Melbourne night the hottest ticket in town was the star-studded gala opening of the much-anticipated stage musical, Beetlejuice.
Melbourne notables from TV, stage, politics, business and sport attended the thrilling first night show at the Regent Theatre on Saturday.
Tim Minchin, Sigrid Thornton, Lucy Durack, Todd Woodbridge, Silvie Paladino, Rob Mills, Kat Stewart, Kala Gare, Rove McManus, Sammy J, Simon Gleeson and Natalie O’Donnell were among the guests.
Based on the movie of the same name by Tim Burton, Beetlejuice tells the fantastical story of Lydia Deetz, a quirky teen whose life gets tipped upside down when she crosses paths with a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes.
Among the cast were Eddie Perfect, who also wrote the music and lyrics for the show, as Beetlejuice, Karis Oka as Lydia and Elise McCann, Rob Johnson, Erin Clare and Tom Wren.
Former Real Housewives of Melbourne star Pettifleur Berenger came dressed in a gothic, Beetlejuice inspired black lace veiled number.
Drag artist HollyPop was a red carpet sensation in a fishnets and leopard print confection. Preparation for the carpet took two and a half hours.
“I am expecting drop-dead glamorous, spooky, kooky night,” HollyPop said.
Heartbreak High star Chloe Hayden said she was “obsessed” with Beetlejuice.
“I love this musical. It has been on my Spotify playlist for the last year. I have been waiting to see this show.”
Adding some excitement to the red carpet was drag artist Aubrey Haive.
Playing with the Beetlejuice theme via accessories were Dani Lombard and Olivia White.
The VIP arrivals corridor was momentarily Brough to a standstill by the voluminous gown worn by drag artist Spencer Street who was accompanied by fellow artist Atlanta Dusk.
